Solgrid: is building the first industrial solar farm in Norway

  • Sector: Energy
  • Date: July 24, 2022

  • Company: Solgrid is an energy company that develops, finances, builds and operates solar power plants in Nordic markets.

Solgrid is the project developer of Furuseth Solar Power Plant, which received an approved license earlier this year. The investment decision for Furuseth Solkraftverk has also been approved and Solgrid is now ready to build Norway’s first industrial solar power plant.

Furuseth Solar Power Plant has a size of 42 acres, which uses ground-mounted solar cells which will partly be built in a disused gravel roof. The solar power plant is being built in an area of Norway where there is a high demand for renewable energy and there is a short distance to the existing power grid. It is estimated to deliver 6.4 GWh a year,  which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of about 320 Norwegian households. The total investment in the solar power plant is around NOK 40 million, and according to the plan, it will be completed during the autumn of 2022.

For the Energy companies Østfold Energi and Akershus Energi, it is important to contribute to realize Norway’s first solar power plant, and thus lead the way in investing in solar in Norway. The two energy companies each have a 40 percent stake in the solar power plant. It is important to initiate solar power projects in Norway, says Oddmund Kroken, CEO at Østfold Energi. We are happy to be able to contribute to the development, together with Solgrid and Akershus Energi, Kroken concludes.

The remaining shareholders are Solgrid and the landowner Naas-Bibow. All the owners share a strong desire to contribute to increased production of renewable energy, both to provide more electricity where there is a need, as well as to help achieve the climate goals.
