To succeed in the green transition of Norwegian industry, we must collaborate across sectors, says Dorte Solvang, CEO at Norsk Industriutvikling.
Norsk Industriutvikling has entered into a collaboration agreement with the industrial companies Elinor Batteries, VOW Green Metals, Norsk E-fuel, Vala Bio, and Green Move. The industrial establishments will enable annual emissions reductions of up to 500,000 tons and create up to 1,000 new jobs in Orkland, Norway. By co-locating industrial projects, the companies can effectively reuse residual products and heat. “To succeed in the green transition of Norwegian industry, we must collaborate across sectors,” says Dorte Solvang, CEO at Norsk Industriutvikling.
The partnership ensures that resources and energy in Orkland are maximally utilized through reuse and symbiosis among the companies, setting a new standard for circular industrial development in Norway. By co-locating the production of batteries, synthetic fuels, hydrogen, biocarbon, and biogas, synergy effects are created that also reduce the need for fossil products in several industries. “Preliminary calculations show that Elinor’s battery factory will use half as much energy as today’s European gigafactories,” says Solvang.
The products from Eiktyr Industrial Park will replace fossil products, leading to positive climate effects. “We are proud to contribute to the transition from fossil coal to biocarbon and are excited to announce Eiktyr as the newest addition to our portfolio of key projects in Norway,” says Cecilie Jonassen, CEO of VOW Green Metals. Lars Bjørn Larsen, Commercial Director at Norsk E-fuel, adds: “This collaboration strengthens our efforts to establish the production of sustainable synthetic aviation fuel in Norway, which is crucial for reducing fossil emissions in the aviation sector.”
