This significant step in the project shows that the energy transition is underway in Mid-Norway and confirms the region’s potential to become a leading player in sustainable battery production, says Arne Fredrik Lånke, CEO of Elinor Batteries.
In partnership with SINTEF, Elinor Batteries has produced its first battery cells in Trondheim, a milestone representing a significant step towards realizing the company’s plans to build a sustainable battery factory at Eiktyr Industrial Park in Orkland Municipality. “This marks the first step in demonstrating our capacity to produce battery cells here in Norway. It is crucial not only for us but for the entire region’s ambition to develop a robust battery industry,” says Holger Gritzka, Chief Product Officer at Elinor Batteries.
“Batteries and energy storage will play a central role in the climate transition and represent one of the decade’s most significant business opportunities. Therefore, it is essential to maintain the momentum we have now,” says Fengliu Lou, Vice President of Technology at Elinor Batteries. “The batteries produced will undergo quality and performance testing at SINTEF’s battery lab, and the experience from the test production is invaluable for our further plans in battery production,” Gritzka concludes.
The test production, which began last autumn, supports Elinor Batteries’ goal of serving the European market with sustainably produced electric energy storage solutions. “This significant step in the project shows that the energy transition is underway in Mid-Norway and confirms the region’s potential to become a leading player in sustainable battery production,” says Arne Fredrik Lånke, CEO of Elinor Batteries.
