Norsk e-Fuel: and Paul Wurth Partners with NextChem Tech for Groundbreaking e-Fuel Facility in Norway

  • Sector: Infrastructure
  • Date: January 30, 2024

  • Company: Norsk e-Fuel is a European Consortium, headquartered in Oslo, promoting novel Power-to-Liquid (PtL) technologies in Norway and Europe.

NextChem Tech, part of the MAIRE group, has entered into a groundbreaking collaboration with Paul Wurth and Norsk e-Fuel to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Mosjøen, Norway. “This project marks the beginning of a new era in the production of environmentally friendly fuel in Norway, and we at MAIRE are proud to contribute,” says Alessandro Bernini, CEO of MAIRE.

NextChem Tech’s NX CPO technology, an advanced method for converting green hydrogen and CO2 into synthesis gas, will play a key role in this project. “By integrating NX CPO technology from NextChem Tech, we are taking an important step towards more carbon-efficient production processes, while also reducing costs,” explains Karl Hauptmeier, CEO of Norsk e-Fuel.

“With NextChem Tech on our team, we now have a complete picture of the technology providers involved in this project. The collaboration enables improved efficiency and competitiveness for Norsk e-Fuel in the e-Fuel market,” says Paul Tockert, metallurgy chief at SMS group. “With all partners now on board and the start of the FEED study, the team looks forward to making this project a historic success,” concludes Tockert.

Norsk e-Fuel plans to start production with a capacity of 40,000 tons of e-Fuel per year in Mosjøen after 2026, aiming to build two additional facilities by 2030, each with a capacity of around 80,000 tons per year.
