Norsk eFuel: and Gen2 Energy Announce Partnership for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production

  • Sector: Infrastructure
  • Date: January 11, 2024

  • Company: Norsk e-Fuel is a European Consortium, headquartered in Oslo, promoting novel Power-to-Liquid (PtL) technologies in Norway and Europe.

Gen2 Energy and Norsk e-Fuel announce a groundbreaking collaboration for the supply of green hydrogen for the production of sustainable aviation fuel in Mosjøen, Norway. “Through strategic partnerships, like the one we have with Gen2 Energy, we are committed to innovation and efficient use of power and other resources,” says Lars Bjørn Larsen, COO of Norsk e-Fuel.

Both companies will build production facilities on adjacent plots at the Nesbruket industrial site in Mosjøen, where Gen2 Energy will produce and supply green hydrogen “over the fence” to Norsk e-Fuel. This will enable Norsk e-Fuel to double its production volume from 25 million liters to 50 million liters per year. To put this into context, this is equivalent to flying 1.7 million people from Oslo to Bodø annually without fossil fuels. “The short distance for the hydrogen supply to Norsk e-Fuel is cost-effective for both parties and marks an important step towards realizing the industrial ambitions in Vefsn municipality,” says Andreas Ekker, SVP Global Sales at Gen2 Energy.

Gen2 Energy’s investment in Mosjøen encompasses two projects: the export of green hydrogen to European customers and an expansion of production capacity to supply Norsk e-Fuel. This strategic location and collaboration will optimize cost efficiency and contribute to sustainable use of land and power resources. “Together, we are leading the way towards a future of fossil-free aviation by creating a value chain that starts with our close collaboration in Mosjøen,” concludes Larsen.
