Norsk Industriutvikling: Receives Approval from Orkland Municipality Council for Eiktyr Industrial Park Plans

  • Sector: Infrastructure
  • Date: April 9, 2024

Orkland Municipality Council has adopted the area zoning plan for Eiktyr Industrial Park in Ustmarka. This is a positive decision for further planning and establishment of Eiktyr Industrial Park, where, among other things, the battery factory of Elinor Batteries will be established. “Now our vision has gained the local support we hoped for. We aim to establish a large, green, and circular industrial park in collaboration with Orkland’s existing industries,” says Dorte Solvang, CEO of Norsk Industriutvikling.

The council’s decision entails stricter requirements to preserve nature and a nature-neutral approach, while also paving the way for large-scale development of new value creation and employment. The municipality will now meet with the State Governor for mediation on the area plan. “We hope that a good solution can be found in the mediation process for the remaining areas, so that we can have a comprehensive area plan for the long-term development of circular industries on a large scale,” says Dorte Bae Solvang.

Elinor Batteries, which plans to produce sustainable batteries, looks forward to establishing itself in Eiktyr. The establishment of a battery cluster could eventually lead to thousands of jobs. “Norway is ranked as one of the best countries for battery industry in Europe, and Orkland has what it takes. I am pleased that we have now officially received local support to establish ourselves,” says Arne Fredrik Lånke, CEO of Elinor Batteries.
